Hosted by legendary Sheffield-based techno group The Black Dog along with University experts, this workshop introduces participants to the concept of live coding – a form of performance art in which music is composed and played by writing computer programme code.
Participants will use software specifically developed for this workshop allowing them to explore the basics of computer programming through the lens of techno music creation.
The workshop is hosted in the University’s world-class Diamond teaching building and led by Dr Sam Aaron, a renowned music live coding expert.
The event will culminate in a live performance in the Spiegeltent featuring contributions from workshop participants and The Black Dog, enhanced with responsive visuals from Human Studio.
The event builds on interdisciplinary research from the Machine Intelligence for Musical Audio (MIMA) group which blends computer science education, musical audio technology and music cognition studies.
