Joined Up Heritage Sheffield: Creating the Stan Shaw Little Mesters Heritage Trail and App

Wed 25 September, 12:00pm 60 minutes

This is one of a series of talks arranged by Joined Up Heritage Sheffield.

Stephen Elliott from Sheffield company, Llama Digital, talks about the process of creating a walking trail to commemorate the life and work of renowned pocket knife maker Stan Shaw.

Born in Worrall in 1926, he worked as a cutler from the age of 14 right up until his death at 94 in February 2021. The trail takes you on a journey around Sheffield, exploring the places where Stan
worked as well as locations significant to Sheffield’s cutlery heritage.

The accompanying app includes archive images and audio recordings of Stan as well as pictures of the wonderful pocket knives he created. There are also interviews with contemporary knife makers, and it explores the question of whether it is accurate to describe Stan as “Sheffield’s last little mester”.

You can download the free app from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store (search for Stan Shaw).
