Joined Up Heritage Sheffield: Stories from the Soil

Cemetery headstones in amongst green foliage
Fri 20 September, 12:00pm 60 minutes

This is one of a series of talks arranged by Joined Up Heritage Sheffield.

Wardsend Cemetery Heritage Park is a hidden gem. Nestled amongst the woodland of Parkwood Springs on the edge of Hillsborough, Wardsend boasts a balance of rich local stories and a nature haven to engage with. This session explores our drive as a community group to engage young people in heritage and how we used the Heritage Open Days New Wave programme funding to develop and deliver a creative event with young people. We will share experiences of those who organised the event and those who participated. The session will also uncover the journey of learning and unlearning that many are experiencing in heritage settings. There are now more innovative approaches to telling stories helping to keep our history relevant to everyone. Understanding our heritage enables us to connect with the local area we live in and those who lived there before, which shapes our perspective of today.

This talk will be given by Friends of Wardsend Cemetery.
