{"id":158,"date":"2024-08-27T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-27T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/festivalofthemind.sheffield.ac.uk\/2024\/?post_type=exhibit1&#038;p=158"},"modified":"2024-09-06T14:54:22","modified_gmt":"2024-09-06T13:54:22","slug":"resurrection","status":"publish","type":"exhibit1","link":"https:\/\/festivalofthemind.sheffield.ac.uk\/2024\/futurecade\/resurrection\/","title":{"rendered":"Resurrection"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A collaboration between academic and broadcaster Dr Tori Herridge and artist Paul Evans, Resurrection consists of drawings and projections featuring two extinct elephant species that contrast dramatically in size and the emotions they evoke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Life-sized drawings of the largest mammoth and smallest elephant ever to have existed confront the viewer with the scale and variety of nature now lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Created in charcoal, a medium used to draw mammoths in ancient caves, one massive work of art, an awe-inspiring 4m-tall Steppe Mammoth, measures 5m x 5m, while a 1m-tall Sicilian dwarf elephant will surprise and appeal with its diminutive form. AI-generated footage of both species explores our ability\/desire to harness technology to imitate nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Resurrection provokes a powerful and intimate connection with long-dead species, challenging us to imagine a future where de-extinction plays a role in conservation.
