About the exhibit

Mesothelioma is a rare incurable cancer, the only known cause is exposure to asbestos. Despite the UK having the highest global recorded incidence rate for mesothelioma, public awareness around the ongoing risks of asbestos remains low. A Toxic Heritage is a photographic series, informed by the work of health researcher Dr Sarah Hargreaves, the Mesothelioma UK Research Centre, and produced by photographer Les Monaghan in collaboration with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and support charities. Powerful imagery represents the connections between people, to illustrate the wider networks of support and care, the shared experiences and moments of positivity and hope.
