The people behind Women’s Movement 100: Angels of the North talk about their involvement in this ambitious community dance and film project.
The Project
Dancer and choreographer Freddie Garland joins forces with Professor Julie Gottlieb, Department of History, and Claudia Mazza from the University’s INSIGNEO institute, to create a filmed performance about women’s suffrage, emancipation and health.
One-hundred women from local communities and further afield took part in this project, which gives artistic form to the patterns and waves of the women’s movement over the last century, as explored in Professor Gottlieb’s research.
