Material Mourning

Dr Lizzy Craig-Atkins, Department of Archaeology, will lead a panel discussion with artist Joanna Whittle and Dr Jane Wildgoose, founder of the Wildgoose Memorial Library, exploring funerary archaeology and mourning rituals of the past. The discussion will look at the implications of these rituals for today’s current practices, whilst responding to Dr Craig-Atkins’ research of sites such as the Rothwell charnel chapel. Part of the Material Mourning project, an installation of Whittle’s works inspired by Dr Craig-Atkin’s research, alongside Wildgoose’s piece ‘Lost But Not Forgotten’.
